Advances in the field of medicine have resulted in new and less painful surgical procedures. Scars post surgery are now a thing of the past.
At SHRC, surgery includes a full suite of specific sub specialities, led by experienced and capable surgeons who will decide the best procedures for our patients based on their condition.
We have in-depth experience in the field of Minimal Access Surgery (MAS) or key hole surgery. MAS, as the name indicates, involves minimum incision or cutting open of the body. This is achieved through small openings or cuts made on the skin. In some cases, natural openings can also be used to gain entry into the body. MAS procedures are carried out with the help of miniature video cameras, fiber optic light sources and specially designed instruments.
MAS procedures performed by our team of surgeons include :
Laparoscopic Cholecystectomy
Removal of gall bladder
Laparoscopic Appendectomy
Removal of appendix
Laparoscopic Hernia Repair
Repair of protrusion of tissue through weakened abdominal wall
Laparoscopic Jejunostomy
Creation of artificial opening into the small intestine for tube feeding
Laparoscopic Fundoplication
Wrapping of the upper part of the stomach around the lower end of the esophagus for treatment of reflux disease or hiatus hernia
Laparoscopic Colectomy
Removal of some part of the large intestine
Laparoscopic repair of rectal prolapse
Correction of rectal wall protruding through the anal opening
Some of the benefits of MAS to patients are :
Reduced haemorrhaging or loss of blood, which minimzes the possibility of blood transfusion
Smaller incisions, which means less pain and a shorter recovery time
Shorter hospital stays which translate to a faster return to one’s normal routine

Removal of nonthreatening (benign) masses such as lipoma
Comprehensive endoscopy investigations and procedures from upper GI to biopsy

SHRC has the distinction of being a Centre of Excellence for treatment of hernia.
Firstly, hernia is a protusion of some content of the abdominal cavity through a defect in the abdominal wall. It presents as a bulge and often times causes extreme pain and discomfort. A characteristic feature of hernia is that the bulge goes down spontaneously or with a change in position.
At SHRC we specialize in hernia repairs through laparoscopic surgery. Laparoscopic surgery falls under the gamut of MAS or Minimal Access Surgery (refer above for more details) Under Laprascopic hernia repair, the tissue protruding through the abdominal wall is repaired.
